Sons and Daughters In Touch
~ They Were Our Fathers ~

Father's Day

Father's Day has been one of the most difficult days for the "Children of The Wall".  Through SDIT, many of us have turned this painful day of recognizing our loss, into a day of remembrance and pride.  We recognize that even though we lost our fathers at a young age and may have celebrated many Father's Days with our fathers, or may have never celebrated any Father's Days with them, we can create new wonderful memories.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund hosts a "Father's Day Rose Remembrance" ceremony at The Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the weekends that SDIT does not host a National Gathering.

Every year volunteers join sons and daughters of those whose names are inscribed on The Wall and gather in the early morning to affix 1,000 long-stemmed roses with messages of love and honor, sent from across the country to those lost in the war.

Red roses represent those killed in action in Vietnam and yellow roses are for those who remain missing. As part of the ceremony each message is read aloud and each rose is touched to the loved one's name on The Wall before finally being placed at the base of the Memorial.

For more information on how to participate in the Father's Day Rose Remembrance, please contact the Memorial Fund at (202) 393-0090 or via email at vvmf@vvmf.org.

SDIT appreciates how the Vietnam Veterans Memorial continues to preserve the memories of our fathers.
