An Open Invitation to America’s Veterans

In June of 2000, Sons and Daughters In Touch will celebrate its tenth anniversary by hosting the largest Father’s Day celebration ever held at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.  SDIT hopes to bring together 1000 sons and daughters and 1000 Vietnam Veterans for this year 2000 tribute.

Since 1990, Sons and Daughters In Touch has secured its place in American history as the country’s first organization formed to benefit those whose fathers were lost in battle.  In a very short period, SDIT has located more than 3,000 grown adults whose childhood sacrificed in the name of freedom in SE Asia.  Today, SDIT is a 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation with a volunteer staff that operates through the generous contributions of its members and other organizations.

During the June 15-18 weekend, several attendees are arranging reunions with those who fought with their fathers.  Other plans call for historical seminars to educate about the Vietnam War, sharing circles offering a forum to discuss the personal affects of this experience, and regular visits to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial – including a special trip for the grandchildren.  The weekend will conclude with a solemn Father’s Day Tribute at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Sunday, June 18, 2000.

Throughout its existence, SDIT has been strengthened by the support of the Veterans Community.  This support comes in the form of individual and chapter memberships, reunions with those who knew and served with our fathers, and advice and counsel about the operation of the organization.  Just as they answered the nation’s call to serve, America’s veterans have generously responded whenever SDIT has asked.

Please make plans to join SDIT for next year’s historic celebration.  Whether you make plans to meet one of your buddy’s children -- or simply want to lend your support – this event will bring a lifetime of memories.  The power of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will never be more evident than when you hear one thousand sons and daughters proudly claim: “…they were our fathers!”

Additional information about Father’s Day 2000 can be obtained by visiting www.sdit.org or by calling 800-984-9994.

Thank you for considering this invitation.  Be assured that spending a few days with the members of Sons and Daughters In Touch – the children and grandchildren of those you served with -- will make you proud to have known our fathers.

Sincerely,

SDIT Board of Directors
