I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT THIS JOURNEY TO THE WALL AND THE TIME SPENT WITH OTHER SONS AND DAUGHTERS AND VETERANS CAME AT A TIME IN MY LIFE WHEN I REALLY NEEDED IT , IT TOUCHED MY HEART MORE THAN YOU WILL KNOW , HELPED ME GET A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF MYSELF AND DEFINITELY MADE ME A BETTER MAN ! From a first time attendee son.... |
My
son, his family, brothers and their wives, a niece, and I all attended
the recent Father's Day weekend in D.C. It was the fourth time my
son and I had attended -- we haven't missed one yet! First, on behalf of
the entire family, I want to thank and congratulate all those who worked
do hard to make this marvelous weekend possible for the rest of us.
It was well organized and in all, a wonderful experience that like the
others, will never be forgotten. It is wonderful for all of us to
come together to share our stories and find understanding and compassion.
We have all become somewhat a very close family over the years....After
we got home, my son and I discussed the weekend and agreed that this time
we didn't so much need to "get" as to give, and that was wonderful.
There were so many new ones there to take under our wings, as we remembered
how we felt that first time in 1992 when we had never really discussed
our loss in depth with anyone else and at first, how much it was to "unload"
and hear similar stories. It was very gratifying to see so many new
sons, daughters, widows, sibs and families there, and know that we were
able to give them some solace and understanding. |
