    Saturday May 29th:

    Late night visit and candle light vigil at The Wall, 10pm. 
    We'll meet at the apex of The Wall at 10pm
     

    Sunday May 30th:

    Rolling Thunder; Leaves the North Pentagon Parking lot at 12 noon 
    and proceeds through DC to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.  A few 
    members of our SDIT family will be participating in Run for The Wall 
    (RFTW), departing Ontario, California on May 19th, crossing the 
    United States in 10 days and concluding in DC with Rolling Thunder.

    Dinner Sunday 5- 8pm-
    Very informal, pizza, sandwich and beer sort of thing.

    DC AREA EVENTS – VETERANS DAY 2003

    Vietnam Women Veterans Memorial

    This Veterans’ Day 2003, the Vietnam Women Veterans Memorial celebrates its 10th Anniversary.  Thousands are planning on a trip to DC for this special celebration and remembrance.  Many events are being planned.  This site will be periodically up-dated as more information is gathered and available in order to provide a complete timetable for all the events being planned.

    Saturday, November 8:The VVA tent is set up on the mall area. It will remain in place through the afternoon on November 11.  One tent dedicated to women veteran information provided by invited resources.  (VVA sponsored, DC Office of Veterans Affairs will participate)

    7:00 PM (Tentative): The play, A Piece of My Heart presented at Women in Military Service for America, Arlington National Cemetery, sponsored by The Women's Memorial Foundation.

    Sunday, November 9: The play, A Piece of My Heart presented at Women in Military Service for America, Arlington National Cemetery, sponsored by The Women's Memorial Foundation. 2:00 PM (Tentative)

    3:00-4:00 PM: Service at the National City Christian Church, 5 Thomas Circle, N.W., Washington, D.C. in celebration of the service of women during the Vietnam Era. (VVA sponsored)

The Key Note speaker is Ms. Cokie Roberts, noted journalist and author of We Are Our Mothers Daughters. Secretary Principi will be joining us.  Reservations are limited.     Tuesday, November 11: Story-telling at the Vietnam Women's Memorial sponsored by the Vietnam Women's Memorial Foundation. 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM &2:30 PM - 5:00 PM

    11:00 AM: The Color Guard Review. Formation is at 10:00AM. One hour will be set aside for a Color Guard Pass in Review of the Vietnam Women's Memorial. (VVA sponsored) 

    1:00-2:00 PM: Ceremony at The Wall with wreath laying at The Wall and the Vietnam Women's Memorial to follow.

    4:00-5:00 PM: Ceremony at the Women in Military Service for America Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, sponsored by the Women's Memorial Foundation.
     

    Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall Events Vietnam Veterans of America will have an information tent near The Wall from Saturday November 8th through Tuesday November 11th. 

    November 11, Veterans Day at Arlington National Cemetery
    The Veterans Day National Ceremony will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, November 11.  Beginning at 10:30 a.m., the U.S. Army Band will perform in the cemetery's Memorial Amphitheater, which is adjacent to the Tomb of the Unknowns.  At 11:00, a wreath will be placed at the Tomb.  The remainder of the ceremony will take place in the amphitheater and will end around noon.  The ceremony is free of charge and open to the public.  Visitors arriving by car can park in the lot next to the cemetery's Visitors Center.  By Metro System, the Visitors Center is about a quarter mile walk from the Arlington National Cemetery stop on Metro's Blue Line.  Free shuttle bus transportation will be provided between the Visitor Center and the amphitheater.  Seating in the amphitheater is limited, so visitors should plan to arrive at least a half hour before the ceremony.  Contact (202) 273-5730.

    VETERANS DAY AT THE SEABEE MEMORIAL -- Nov. 11.  Entrance to Arlington Cemetery.  Veterans Day will be observed with speeches, color guard and a wreath laying ceremony sponsored by the Navy Seabee Veterans of America, Inc.

    VETERANS DAY AT FIRST DIVISION MEMORIAL -- Nov. 11. For further information call 202-208-1631. 

    VETERANS DAY AT THE 101st  AIRBORNE DIVISION MEMORIAL -- Nov. 11.  Memorial Ave. West of Arlington Memorial Bridge.  Wreath laying to honor 101st Airborne Division battle casualties and dead. Sponsored by the 101st Airborne Division Assoc. Washington Chapter.

    VETERANS DAY AT THE NAVY MEMORIAL -- 1:00 p.m., Nov. 11 -- U.S. Navy Memorial, 701 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, D.C.  A wreath will be laid at the Lone Sailor Statue in commemoration of Veterans Day.  The U.S. Navy Ceremonial Band, Ceremonial Guard and Color Guard will participate in the public ceremony.     VETERANS DAY AT THE COAST GUARD MONUMENT -- Wreath laying ceremony at the Coast Guard Monument in Arlington National Cemetery, section 4, from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.  Contact (202) 267-1587.

    VETERANS DAY AT MT. VERNON, GEORGE WASHINGTON’S HOME – Nov. 11. Veterans admitted free. Veterans are invited to place a floral tribute at Washington’s tomb.  Mt. Vernon is located at the southern end of George Washington Memorial Parkway, 16 miles south of Washington, D.C.  Contact (703) 780-2000.

  • Father's Day 2003- Washington, D.C.:     Did you know that you can send a message that will be attached to a rose and delivered to your father on Father's Day? It's true. Send your note in an e-mail to cthomas@vvmf.org.  Ms. Thomas said she will make sure your note, along with a rose, is placed at your father's panel on Father's Day. There is no fee for this, altho, donations are gladly accepted.  This program is sponsored by The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund

From the restaurant we will either take a cab or carpool to The Wall.

    Monday-Memorial Day Ceremony (May 26)- We will meet at the National Park Service Kiosk at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (between The Wall and the Lincoln Memorial) between 11:30am and 12:30 pm.  Ceremony starts at 1:00pm.  SDIT has reserved "limited" seating.  SDIT will be placing a wreath at The Wall at the close of the ceremony.

Veterans' Day- Washington D.C.: (Updated 11/8/02)

SDIT Events
- Opening Ceremonies, November 7th .  We will meet at the National Park Service Kiosk at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (between The Wall and the Lincoln Memorial) at 3pm.  Opening ceremony starts at 3:30pm.

- Reading of the Names; Reading of the names will start on Thursday (11/7) at 4pm and continue through November 10th.  Names will be read from 5am to midnight each day. 

- SDIT will be serving as Honor Guard for the reading of the names on Saturday (11/9) at 3:00pm.

- SDIT will be sharing an information table with VVA.  The 
information table will be open Saturday through Monday 10am – 5pm.

- SDIT Dinner;  We will be getting together Saturday (11/9) night for an SDIT diner.  I've selected a restaurant named Market Inn.  The restaurant is located in the heart of South West Washington's new "Independence Square", and just off Capitol Hill. It is 
convenient to the Blue & Orange line Metro stop, Federal Center S.W. (less than 2 blocks).  The address is 200 E Street, S.W., Washington D.C. 20024.  Dinner reservations are under SDIT (or Terry McGregor)  for 7:30pm.  If your planning to attend, please email me with the number of people in your party.   terry.mcgregor@hp.com.

- After dinner Saturday night we will make a late night trip to The Wall….approx. 9:30pm

- Veterans Day November 11th:
o  A March to Remember; March with VVA down Constitution Avenue towards the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.  Join VVA at the assembly point at 7th Street, N.W. and Constitution Ave, N.W. at 8am on Monday, November 11, 2002.

o  Veterans Day Ceremony; We will meet at the National Park Service Kiosk at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (between The Wall and the Lincoln Memorial) at 11:30am.  Ceremony starts at 1:00pm.  SDIT has 30 seats reserved.  SDIT will be placing a wreath at The Wall at the close of the ceremony.
